Guided vs Expected vs Whisper
Hover a company tile (or tap the chip under the ticker) and the card shows three different numbers for the quarter, because three different numbers decide how the stock reacts. Beating one of them is not the same as beating the others.
- Guided
- What the company itself told the market to expect, usually on the previous quarter's call. It is the only one of the three the company is on the hook for, and management has every incentive to set it where it can be cleared.
- Expected (analyst consensus)
- The published average of sell-side analyst models. This is the number headlines mean by "beat" or "miss". It is also the slowest to move, because analysts update models in discrete steps and some of those models are weeks stale by the print.
- Whisper (what is actually priced in)
- The number the market is positioned for. Nobody publishes it, so we compute it, weekly, for every name on the calendar: start from consensus, add the drift in analyst estimates over the past 30 days (revisions lead the published average), and add the company's habitual surprise, the median beat or miss of its last four prints, because the market prices the pattern rather than the average. It is the reason a company can beat consensus and still fall hard: the beat was already in the price, and the whisper was the real bar. Alongside it the card shows the options-implied move, the at-the-money straddle over the print as a fraction of the share price, which is the market paying real money to state how big a surprise it expects. Our implied versus realised move database tracks how well those prices have actually held up.
Consensus and the computed whisper refresh automatically as part of the weekly calendar routine, from the analyst and options data behind each name; guidance is entered by hand from the company's own release, and every card is stamped with the date its figures were captured. Consensus and positioning drift right up to the print, so treat the stamp as part of the number. The whisper is an estimate by construction; the implied move is an observed market price.

Earnings Calendar FAQ
- Which companies report earnings this week?
- In the week of August 24-28, 19 companies on our verified calendar are scheduled to report, including Intuit, Nvidia, Salesforce, Nutanix, Marvell and Dollar General. The calendar above breaks them out day by day, tagged pre-market or after the close.
- What is a whisper number?
- A whisper number is the result the market is actually positioned for, as distinct from the published analyst consensus. Nobody files it and no company issues it, so the whisper shown on each card here is computed: the consensus, plus the drift in analyst estimates over the past 30 days, plus the company’s habitual surprise (the median beat or miss of its last four prints). Hover a company on the calendar and the card shows it alongside the company guidance, the analyst consensus and the options-implied move, so you can see the gap before the print.
- Why do stocks fall after beating earnings expectations?
- Because the expectation that matters was not the one that got beaten. Analyst consensus is the number in the headline, but the whisper number is the one embedded in the price, and after a strong run the whisper usually sits above consensus. A company that beats consensus but lands under the whisper has missed the bar the market set, so the stock sells off on what reads as good news. The options-implied move shown on each card is the size of surprise the market is paying for going in.
- What time do companies report earnings?
- Most companies report either before the market opens, typically between 6:00am and 8:30am ET, or after the close, typically between 4:00pm and 5:00pm ET. Every company on this calendar is tagged Pre-Mkt or After Close so you know which session to watch.
- When is the next CPI report?
- The next Consumer Price Index release is scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026 at 8:30am ET.
- When is the next jobs report?
- The next US jobs report is scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026 at 8:30am ET.
- When is the next Fed meeting?
- The next scheduled Federal Reserve item on this calendar is the FOMC meeting, September 15-16, with updated dot plot on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at statement 2:00pm ET Sep 16.
- How often is this earnings calendar updated?
- Dates are re-verified weekly against company announcements and primary sources: stale weeks are pruned and a new week is added, so the calendar always covers roughly the next four weeks. It was last verified on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
- Are these earnings dates confirmed?
- Dates shown without an asterisk are backed by a company announcement or at least two independent sources. Dates marked with an asterisk have not yet been confirmed by the company and can move.
