Pegasystems Earnings (July 21): ACV Grew 7% Against a 15% Guide, and ACV Was the Whole Point
Pegasystems' Q2 2026: total annual contract value grew 7% to $1.62 billion against a 15% full-year guide, Pega Cloud ACV rose 22% against a 30%-plus target, and revenue rose 9.4% to $420.7 million.
The Number That Moves the Stock Missed, and It Missed by Half
UPDATE (August 7, 2026): Pega reported, and this page's one instruction, watch ACV rather than revenue, is what makes the print readable. Total annual contract value grew 7%, or 8% in constant currency, to $1,620 million from $1,514 million. The 2026 framework quoted below guided 15% total ACV growth. Growth came in at under half the guided rate.
The cloud line missed its own bar too. Pega Cloud ACV rose 22% to $926 million, against guidance for Pega Cloud ACV growing above 30%.
Revenue looked fine, which is the trap. Revenue of $420.7 million rose 9.4% and gross profit rose 13.7% to $312.7 million. Operating profit was $16.6 million and net income attributable to common shareholders fell to $13.3 million. Free cash flow reached a record $288.3 million in the first half, against the $575 million full-year guide, so cash generation is tracking even as bookings are not. Revenue is a lagging read on a subscription book; ACV is the leading one, and they are pointing in different directions.
The irony in the cause is worth naming. ACV growth slowed on client delays amid AI market changes, with the company flagging potential continued impact through the year. This page led on Pega Infinity '26, an agentic AI suite deliberately sold with no consumption-based AI charges. The AI cycle did not reward that positioning this quarter; it froze the buyers while they work out what they need.
Not sourced: whether the full-year 15% ACV, $2 billion revenue and $2.75 non-GAAP EPS guidance was revised, and a verified session reaction. Coverage described the stock falling on the print without a figure we could confirm.

TL;DR
- Pegasystems reports Q2 2026 after the close on July 21, with the call the next morning. The number that moves the stock is ACV, not revenue.
- 2026 guidance frames the bar: 15% total annual contract value growth, $2 billion revenue, non-GAAP EPS of $2.75, and $575 million free cash flow, with Pega Cloud ACV growing above 30%.
- The wildcard is Pega Infinity '26, an agentic AI suite sold with no consumption-based AI charges, the opposite of the metered-token model most software peers push.
- PEGA has a habit of large post-earnings moves. This is a preview and a plan, not a prediction: watch ACV, cloud growth, and any AI-driven guidance change.
The Board
The three numbers that decide the print, plus the pricing gamble underneath them.
Watch ACV, Not Revenue
For a subscription software company, revenue is the rear-view mirror. Annual contract value is the windshield, because it captures the run-rate of contracts signed, which is what the stock trades on. The guide is 15% total ACV growth for 2026, and Pega Cloud ACV above 30%.
Post cloud-transition, revenue and ACV growth have converged, so a clean quarter looks like both accelerating together. A miss looks like ACV decelerating even if reported revenue is fine, and that's the trap: a "revenue beat" that hides slowing bookings is exactly the setup that gaps a software stock down after hours.
The Agentic AI Pricing Gamble
Here's what makes PEGA more interesting than a generic software print. Pega Infinity '26 ships agentic AI with governance built in and, deliberately, no consumption-based AI charges. Most of the software complex is racing to meter AI by the token. Pega is betting enterprises will pay for predictable AI cost instead.
That bet cuts both ways. The bull read: flat-fee AI removes the budget anxiety that stalls enterprise deals, so ACV accelerates. The bear read: if you don't charge for consumption, you eat the compute cost yourself, and heavy AI usage becomes a margin headwind instead of a revenue tailwind. Which of those shows up in the guidance is the whole game.
This is the same tension we dug into in the software AI capex paradox and ServiceNow's software-on-trial preview: the market wants AI to be a revenue story, but for a lot of enterprise software it's shaping up as a cost story first.
The Part The Bulls Are Skipping
PEGA is a mid-cap that moves like a small-cap on earnings. A guide-down on ACV, or any hint that the no-consumption model is squeezing margins, and the stock can shed a double-digit percentage in a single after-hours session. The flip side is just as violent to the upside, which is exactly why this is an event trade into the print rather than an investment.
There's also the "AI-washing" risk that hangs over the whole group: a slick agentic-AI launch is a great slide, but the market has started demanding it show up in bookings, not just keynotes. If Infinity '26 isn't visibly pulling ACV, "we have agentic AI" is worth less every quarter it doesn't convert.
The Options Angle
- This is a defined-risk-into-the-event name, not a naked-directional one. If you expect a big move but won't call the direction, a straddle or strangle is the structure the setup is built for. Check what percentage move the options are already pricing before you pay for it.
- If you lean bullish on the ACV number, spreads over naked calls. Post-earnings IV crush punishes long premium; a call spread caps the bleed. The building blocks are in the calls and puts guide.
- Own shares and nervous? Sell the event. A short-dated covered call above the current price harvests the inflated pre-earnings premium and cushions a soft print.
The One-Line Read
PEGA's Q2 hinges on whether 15% ACV growth and 30%-plus cloud show the agentic-AI launch is actually pulling bookings, because its no-consumption pricing is a genuine differentiator and a genuine margin risk at the same time, so trade the print with defined-risk structures and let the ACV line, not the revenue headline, tell you who won.
