Novo Nordisk Earnings (August 5): Operating Profit Beat at DKK 33.4 Billion and the Full-Year Guide Improved Again
Novo Nordisk's Q2 2026 results: adjusted operating profit of DKK 33.4 billion beat the DKK 28.7 billion expected, sales of DKK 78.5 billion rose 3%, and full-year guidance improved to 0 to -6%.
The Guide Improved, Which Was the Only Line That Mattered
UPDATE (August 7, 2026): Novo reported on August 5 and beat on the adjusted line this page told readers to read. Adjusted operating profit of DKK 33.389 billion, up 11% at constant exchange rates, against roughly DKK 28.74 billion expected. Net sales were DKK 78.5 billion, up 3% at constant currency, against the DKK 76.86 billion year-ago figure quoted below.
The guidance range moved up, for the second time running. Full-year adjusted sales and adjusted operating profit are now guided to 0% to -6% at constant exchange rates, improved from the -4% to -12% quoted below. It still describes a shrinking year. It is a shrinking year getting less bad, which is the whole bull case on this name and it is now twice-confirmed.
Oral Wegovy kept doing the work. The pill did DKK 3.22 billion in the quarter, against the DKK 2.26 billion first US quarter this page identified as the single line holding the guidance up, and has passed 5 million US prescriptions since launch. Total weekly prescriptions topped 265,000 in the week ending July 17.
The 340B caveat below still applies. Reported figures are flattered by a roughly $4.2 billion reversal of US 340B rebate provisions that the adjusted measures strip out, which is why every figure quoted here is the adjusted one.
Scoring: this page logged no trade rows, so there is nothing to grade. We could not source a verified ADR close for the session, so no price reaction is asserted.

TL;DR
- Novo Nordisk reports Q2 2026 (half-year) results Wednesday, August 5, before the US open, five days after the Phase 3 ZEUS trial of ziltivekimab failed on July 31 and took roughly $30 billion of market value with it.
- The company's own full-year guidance already calls for adjusted sales and operating profit to fall 4% to 12% at constant currency. That range was raised in May (from -5% to -13%) on the back of one line: oral Wegovy, which did DKK 2.26 billion in its first US quarter, about double what analysts modelled.
- Reported figures will look better than reality: 2026 numbers are flattered by a roughly $4.2 billion reversal of US 340B rebate provisions that the adjusted measures strip out. Read the adjusted line only.
- Consensus is thin: the one semi-reliable set has $0.82 of EPS per ADR on about $11.3 billion of revenue. The year-ago quarter did DKK 76.86 billion of sales with Wegovy at DKK 19.53 billion, up 67%.
- The ADR closed Monday around $47, about a quarter below its 52-week high. Eli Lilly reports the same morning, thirty minutes apart, with the opposite momentum.
When Does Novo Nordisk Report Earnings?
Wednesday August 5, with results out before the US market opens (Novo releases early in the European morning). It shares the healthcare slot of the week's calendar with Eli Lilly, which makes Wednesday morning a live side-by-side: one obesity giant guiding up, one guiding down, thirty minutes apart.
The Board
The guidance is already negative. The question is whether the one growing line can outrun it.
The ZEUS Hangover Comes First
On July 31, ziltivekimab, Novo's once-monthly anti-inflammatory heart drug and its most advanced attempt to be something other than a GLP-1 company, failed its Phase 3 ZEUS trial in more than 6,300 patients: a hazard ratio of 0.99 on major cardiovascular events, which is the clinical-trial way of saying "did nothing". The ADR fell as much as 10% intraday, its worst day since February, and closed the week having surrendered roughly $30 billion of market value.
Wednesday is management's first scheduled chance to answer the question that failure re-opened: what is Novo, if not a GLP-1 monoculture? Expect an impairment disclosure and, more importantly, watch whether R&D commentary re-prioritises toward the obesity pipeline it was trying to diversify away from.
The One Line Growing: Oral Wegovy
The May guidance raise (to adjusted sales down 4-12% from down 5-13%; yes, at Novo a smaller decline counts as a raise) had a single engine: oral Wegovy's DKK 2.26 billion first US quarter, roughly double consensus. Q2 shows whether that ramp holds now that Lilly's rival oral pill Foundayo is approved and launching. The injectable base it must offset is large and eroding: the year-ago quarter did DKK 76.86 billion of total sales with injectable-led Wegovy at DKK 19.53 billion, and US net pricing has been the recurring source of pain since.
One accounting trap for anyone reading the release raw: reported 2026 sales and operating profit are inflated by a ~$4.2 billion one-time reversal of 340B rebate provisions. The company's adjusted measures exclude it. Every useful comparison on Wednesday is on the adjusted line.
What Would Actually Move the Stock
- The guidance range. Narrowing toward -4% reads as stabilisation and probably rallies a stock trading around $47, about a quarter below its 52-week high. Any slip toward -12% confirms the bear case.
- Oral Wegovy's second quarter. Holding near or above the DKK 2.26 billion debut, against a live Lilly competitor, is the bull case's entire load-bearing wall.
- US Wegovy pricing. The injectable franchise's erosion rate determines how much the pill has to carry.
We are not logging options plays on this one: US-listed ADR options coverage into the print was too thin to source a reliable implied move (aggregator chatter says "double digits", which we could not verify), and a play that cannot be priced cannot be scored. The decision, for shareholders rather than options traders, is whether stabilisation arrives before the pill war does.
The One-Line Read
Novo walks into Wednesday having already guided its own year down, lost its diversification story in a single Friday, and found exactly one line item growing fast enough to matter, which makes this the rare megacap print where the bull case fits in a sentence: the pill has to keep doubling, because nothing else is going the right way.
